Throwback Thursday – Brodosi Family 10 years ago – July 23, 2020

It was 10 years ago this summer that we had our pool remodeled. The Brodosi Boys were just five and three at the time. They look so small in the pool. We had to drain the pool to fix a leak and repair a few rust spots. It was a great time to retake the photo. Cheers, David Brodosi

About
“Throwback Thursday” is an Internet theme day observed on every Thursday during which people share an old photograph of themselves via social networking sites and image-sharing communities, most notably through photo-sharing mobile app Instagram.

Origin
Throwback has been associated with things that are deemed classic or vintage since as early as 2003, when it was first defined on Urban Dictionary.[1] The earliest known mention of “Throwback Thursday” can be found in the title of a series of revamped retro cartoon characters that were illustrated by animator Saxton Moore and uploaded onto his blog in January 2006.

Throwback Thursday is a popular internet trend used among social media platforms such as Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. Users will often post nostalgic pictures of their past accompanied by the hashtag #TBT or ThrowbackThursday

WHAT DOES THROWBACK THURSDAY OR TBT MEAN?
Throwback Thursday or TBT is a social-media trend when users, on Thursdays, post photographs or recollections of the past under the #throwbackthursday, #tbt, or #throwback hashtags. David Brodosi

A trip to the Grand Canyon – Once inside the park, parents of young children may want to start with the Rim Trail, which is paved and passes many impressive lookout points. Note that there’s no water on the trail, but you can fill up your bottles ahead of time in the Grand Canyon Village. The Rim Trail can also be traversed by bike and there are shuttle bus stops along the way to give hikers lots of flexibility — if kids are melting down, you can hop a bus back to the parking area.  David Brodosi

1-2 days tends to be sufficient for most families to experience the Grand Canyon. If you’re more of a hiker, then 2-3, but again that’s tops. I’m in the travel industry and I’ll put it this way: 85% of people who book 3 days or more at the canyon end up cancelling after 2 ’cause they discover that there’s only so much of the Grand Canyon that us “ordinary mortals” can see and do. You definitely can and should try to add some other destinations to your itinerary. Depending on where you fly into to start your trip, many wonderful and memorable itineraries can be made.

Day One – Brilliance of the Sea- Brodosi Family

So it’s day one and the Brodosi Family just got on board Royal Caribbean’s Brilliance of the Sea. We skipped breakfast knowing we would have to wait for our room to be cleaned and bags delivered.

First stop for the Brodosi family was the pool deck. At the main pool, kids and adults hang out soaking up the run. With a large monitor, pool side bar, and a DJ, it didn’t take long for the party to get started.

Cruise Tip 101

Travel Tip: Wear your bathing suit under your clothing. Boarding begins at 11am, but you don’t have access to your room until 2pm. So spend time at the pool and grab lunch. -brodosi

Solarium Pool – adults only!
Walking around we found the gym. Located on the top deck, you have a perfect view of the open water ahead of you. Guests can expect to find daily yoga, meditation, and cycling.

My family and I just returned from a cruise to Cozumel Mexico. Traveling with my wife and two teenage boys is an awesome experience. We enjoyed exploring the island, traveling to exotic places on the island, and enjoying the outdoors. We took lots of photographs of our adventures and the natural beauty of Mexico. How have smartphones changed the photography game? In his latest blog post on Medium, David Brodosi dives into the subject!

Back in the day, photography was a hobby limited to dedicated artists. Sure, many families toted film cameras along for vacations. But outside of the occasional snapshot or family photo to preserve the memory of a moment, photography was still a game exclusive to artists.

Over the years, photography has become much more accessible. With the advent of digital photography, the lengthy process of developing photos has become all but completely forgotten. Now, in 2020, the process has become easier than ever before. With a smartphone in hand — and, let’s admit it: almost everyone is glued to one by now! — capturing a moment with a photo is as simple as blinking your eyes!

One of David Brodosi’s greatest adventures was hiking the serene Appalachian Trail. Along the way, he captured gorgeous shots of plants and flowers. Botany both fascinates and eludes him — in his photography, he attempts to grasp the science on his own terms. In the future, Brodosi hopes to start a project that will include intertwining his portfolio photos with pressed flowers and plants. In book form, he will represent the flowers in photos and pressed form, to showcase the everlasting beauty of nature’s decorations. David Brodosi only uses an iPhone camera to capture his photos.

Recently, David Brodosi has also started to document his journeys in terms of flavors. In particular, Brodosi keeps his eyes peeled for unique cuisine and eats that he can’t enjoy back at home. He is a major fan and supporter of the farm to table approach. Supporting local farms and businesses is a touch of wholesomeness that makes his meals taste that much better!

Cozumel, Mexico

Cozumel, Mexico, is one of the most striking places on earth when it comes to breathtaking sights, exotic activities, and plenty of fun for the whole family. The island is a famous cruise ship port stop in the Caribbean sea and is mostly famous for its untapped nature, scuba diving spots, and Mayan ruins. Nature and outdoor activities make Cozumel an ideal spot for family fun, once-in-a-lifetime photography sessions, and ancient wonder. If you are traveling to Cozumel, here are some things you should see and do. This was a great place for the Brodosi Family Vacation!

Meet the Dolphins

Cozumel is a major ‘hot spot’ for the world’s smartest ocean creature. These clever little water mammals are incredibly social, and visitors of Cozumel can have the chance to swim with, photograph, and experience these majestic creatures on the island through multiple nature preservation groups. Dolphin Discovery Cozumel is one such family-friendly activity where the whole family can get together and enjoy interacting with Dolphins in their natural habitat. This is an excellent experience for those families who want to get outdoors and experience the local wildlife in a fun way.

Explore Ancient Ruins

The Mayan people made Cozumel their home for many generations. On the island, visitors will have the ability to experience, photograph, and explore ancient Mayan ruins up close and personally. San Gervasio is one such archeological site that has existed on the island since before the Colombian exploration era. The site was once a temple to the ancient Mayan fertility goddess Ixchel. Mayan women would travel from all over to this site to make offerings, and the site itself is still remarkably whole. This is also a great site to see wild iguanas for those interested in wildlife photography!

Immerse Yourself In Mayan History

Aside from the white sand beaches and crystal clear waters, Cozumel is steeped in ancient and rich history. Kun Che Park is a theme park that the entire family can enjoy, and will transport you back in time to the lands of the ancient Maya. Visitors will get to taste traditional cuisine, visit ancient ruins, explore the vast jungles of the island, and experience the exotic dances, artforms, and garments of this otherworldly culture. For families, or even individuals looking for a once in a lifetime experience, Kun Che Park is a great daytime activity for all ages! – David Brodosi

Final Thoughts

The island of Cozumel is far more than just a stop on a cruise package. It is more than the stunning beaches and scuba diving destinations. It is the home to an ancient culture and is steeped in rich historic foods, stories, legends, and fun. The island of Cozumel is truly an experience that everyone who is traveling should try and have at least once. So, the next time you find yourself shopping for cruise packages or flights, consider ones that make a stop in Cozumel. This island will take your breath away. – David Brodosi

ABOUT ALYEKSA, ALASKA

David Brodosi and friends in downtown Alaska
David Brodosi and friends in downtown Alaska

You want to experience all that Alaska has to offer, but you don’t have much time, or maybe you don’t want to venture too far outside of Anchorage. That’s okay. You’ve made it to the 49th state and you’re going to have an unforgettable time regardless – it’s hard not to in Alaska. But to guarantee a memorable stay like no other, take a short (like, super short) drive outside of Anchorage and turn off into Girdwood. Why Girdwood, you ask? The Alyeska Resort is waiting to show you it all. – David Brodosi

Alyeska is located just 40 miles south of the Anchorage airport, providing skiers and snowboarders with convenient access once they’ve arrived in. Alyeska provides skiers and snowboarders with 73 trails spread out on more than 1,400 acres. The 60-passenger aerial tram, high-speed quad and seven other chairlifts, including two magic carpets ensure there’s no waiting on lift lines—not that crowds are usually a problem in Alyeska.

David Brodosi and friends onm downtown Alaska
David Brodosi and friends in downtown Alaska

Averaging 649 inches of powder annually, Alyeska offers some of the world’s deepest snow conditions. That said, the temperatures aren’t necessarily as cold as you might think. January is typically the coldest winter month, with averages around 20 degrees Fahrenheit, but by March averages are around 32 degrees. Because Alaska experiences more daylight during the winter months than the rest of the United States—due to its proximity to the North Pole—Alyeska offers night skiing on the weekends from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.  – David Brodosi

The resort’s trails are well divided to accommodate a variety of skiers and riders. About 11 percent of Alyeska is designated beginner, while 52 percent is marked as intermediate and 37 percent for experts. Terrain park enthusiasts have two parks to choose from, as well as a 400-foot-long Superpipe. Snowcat and heli-skiing tours are also available.

If a resort with breathtaking views and world-class terrain top your ski vacation “must haves,” look no further than Alyeska. If you’ve never been skiing in Alaska, it’s something that you must tick off your ski resort bucket list. Alaska is an unforgettable place to visit as a skier and snowboarder. Known for its dramatic peaks and spiraling vertical, Alaska’s Chugachs are unlike any mountains you’ve experienced. The lodge is at sea level!!! – David Brodosi
