For the second year, the University of Wyoming has hosted a multi-challenge hackathon focused on blockchain. The “Blockchain Stampede,” part of the university’s College of Engineering and Applied Science WyoHackathon, is intended to help highlight the state’s commitment to blockchain technology.
The University of California, Irvine has begun tracking, surveying and analyzing of a group of undergraduate students to better understand their experiences inside and outside the college. Along the way, the researchers involved in the two-year project will be creating tools that other institutions may use to assess the student experiences at their own campuses.
How can college and universities encourage faculty to use new technologies in their teaching? We talked with Julin Sharp, assistant vice president for information technology at Marist College, about her institution’s efforts to engage faculty with innovative tools and pedagogies.
In a recent survey, 54 percent of faculty respondents said they believe adding more technology to their classroom would definitely increase student engagement. And another 35 percent felt adding more tech could possibly do so. The survey, conducted by Censuswide on behalf of learning management company D2L, polled 500 university professors across the United States on their use of technology, students’ expectations, institutional support for tech and more.
